I’ve always been interested in the nature around me. Nearly all the images in this folio have been produced with traditional techniques such as charcoal, dip pen, acrylic inks and colour pencil.
The eel and lamprey illustrations started out as pencil drawings which I’ve scanned and augmented in Photoshop.
The last image I’ve selected here of the fox in the winter woodland was produced using scraper-board. This has a lovely graphic feel, reminiscent of a wood cut or engraving.
This folio contains illustrations mainly produced using Adobe Illustrator. I do love the flat colours reminiscent of 20th Century travel posters and of course the wonderful Brian Cook covers for Batsford books on the English countryside and churches.
This is a folio of work I’m pursuing for my own pleasure. Ideas that have been in my mind and finally are beginning to gain a visual voice.
These images start as pencil drawings, I don’t think anything can match pencil for it’s immediacy and looseness. The ‘story’ was inspired by reading The Vinland Sagas, which describes the Norse discovery of America.
This is a folio which covers commissioned projects, although very different in content they have all been achieved using primarily Adobe Illustrator.
Again using Adobe Illustrator, with it’s clean lines and bold colour it is perfect for producing more technical and diagrammatic types of illustration.
This folio contains mainly editorial work I’ve produced. I particularly enjoy creating book covers - it’s one image that has to grab the attention straight away as well as giving the reader some idea of the books content.
